Berkshire Powder Room

Though small in size, this space offered an opportunity to be bold. The client wanted something that stood out. A room that would feel deliberate and finished, not an afterthought tucked behind a hallway.

The client wanted contrast and was open to deeper color, but the room still needed to work as a powder room: compact, clean, and practical. The aim was not showy effects; it was to use the small footprint well with considered, durable materials.

Rather than fight the size of the room, we leaned into it. The walls, trim, and ceiling were finished in a deep oxblood lacquer, giving the room a sense of cohesion and depth.

Architectural paneling adds subtle dimension under the gloss, helping the room feel tailored without drawing attention to any one surface.

Above the paneling, a hand-painted botanical wallpaper introduces patterns without overwhelming the space. It brings softness to the finish and gives the eye something to rest on beyond the lacquer.

Cast Concrete Sink

This sink is the room’s anchor, solid but quiet. Its smaller footprint makes it suitable for the space, but its material presence gives it visual weight. It’s functional and sculptural, without needing embellishment.

Unlacquered Brass Fixtures

The fittings were chosen for how they’ll change over time. Their patina will develop naturally, which gives the room a lived-in finish that doesn’t need to be polished to feel cared for.

Slim Gold Mirror + Globe Sconce

The mirror and lighting were selected for their simplicity. Their profiles are slender, and the glow they add is enough to brighten the room.
