Riverwood Kitchen Redesign

Sandy Spring, GA

Project Type: Residential Interior Design
Space: Kitchen
Location: Sandy Springs
Nearby Areas: Dunwoody, Chastain Park
City: Atlanta, GA

  • This kitchen was updated for daily cooking and easy hosting. The work included new cabinetry, a larger island, matte counters, a new sink and hardware, and layered lighting. The result is light and warm, with simple lines, open sightlines, and island seating for everyday meals.

  • Create a kitchen that feels welcoming. Keep storage simple, surfaces easy to care for, and lighting comfortable for both cooking and sitting at the island.

  • Plan and circulation

Keep direct paths between sink, range, and refrigerator, with comfortable aisles around the island so cooking and seating do not compete.

    Work zones

Prep at the island near the sink; cooking at the range with landing space on both sides; cleanup at the sink with dishwasher and trash close by.

    Surfaces and palette

Light cabinetry as the backdrop, wood tone accents for warmth, and matte counters to cut glare. Warm metal shows up at the faucet, hardware, and pendant details.

    Lighting

Large lantern pendants provide even light at the island; under cabinet and ceiling lighting keep the perimeter readable.

    Storage and organization

Deep drawers for pots, dividers for trays and boards, and a pullout for trash and recycling so the counters stay clear.

    Use and upkeep

Wipeable finishes, hardware with a comfortable grip, and a layout that is easy to clean and easy to live in.

  • Light inset cabinetry

A calm backdrop with simple lines and clear reveals.

    Wood tone accents

Select panels and trim add warmth without visual weight.

    Matte counters

Low sheen work surfaces reduce glare and photograph cleanly.

    Warm metal details

Taps, pulls, and pendant parts add a measured highlight.

    Lantern pendants over the island

Even, comfortable light where you prep and gather.

    Under cabinet and ceiling lighting

Task at the counters, general light across the room.

    Deep drawer storage

Easy access to everyday cookware and small appliances.

    Tray and board dividers

Vertical slots keep sheet pans and cutting boards organized.

    Pullout trash and recycling

Waste stays contained and close to the cleanup zone.

    Clear island seating

Knee room and overhang sized for everyday meals and quick conversations.
